I purchased these after a fair amount of reviewing all of the wireless headphones out there. For personal comparison, I have a double pair of infrared headphones in the bedroom, and considering they are basically generic in brand, they do pretty well. These Sennheisers are definitely a step-up in quality, are fairly simple to use and sound great for what I use them for, which is mostly recorded television programs & Internet-based talk radio. Specifically, once they are tuned, there is no static or popping noises. I like the fact that they can operate over 3 different channels, all of which can be fine-tuned. My only complaint with the tuning is that the tuning dial is right next to the volume dial and can be easily bumped. Their comfort is good and I hardly notice them after several hours of wearing them, but they fall off fairly easy if I bend over. And, the ear pads don't close around the ear like some headphones do. Battery life is pretty good & I got about 15 hours out of the no-name brand ones that came with the headphones -- I expect to get about that amount of time out of my 900mah NiMH rechargable AAAs. The last thing I'll mention is that the range on these is about 35-40 feet on the same floor and that is through several walls & with the transmitter sitting up high. I suffered for years with a pair of no-name wireless headphones. At times the static was almost unbearable. I figured my house wiring was causing interference and that I would just have to put up with it. I bought these in hope that the 3 channel feature might help and it did! First channel sounded just like my old set...very poor. Switched to channel 2 and got instant crystal clear reception. No static at all.
Other reviewers have complained of various problems such as the unit powering down when volume is too low. I haven't experienced that. I have mine plugged into a box that toggles them from a dvd player, tv, stereo etc. They are a little big and boxy compared to my old ones but they are comfortable and stay on my head fine. The tuner and volume controls are placed too close together but I think I will get used to that. Sound reproduction is not audiophile quality but more than adequate for tv viewing. I base my 5 stars on what I expected for what I paid which was just a little over $30 shipped. Additionally, I live in a rural setting so interference from neighbors phones etc is not an issue. I can state that my own cordless phone causes no interference with the headset. I can't address the longevity or durability because I just got them but my old cheapos lasted 6 years. I just don't think there is a lot to wear out or break on a pair of wireless headphones so I'm hoping these will last as long.

This is the first time I am moved to write a negative review on a product purchased at Amazon. These headphones were a big disappointment. I bought these to use with my bedroom LCD TV. After setting the base station up and trying several tuning options, all I could get was sound with a very loud background hum. This was just a headache waiting to happen. But that isn't what motivated me to write this review. Other buyers need to understand how cheaply these headphones are made. The power cord's plug into the base station is a poor fit and it requires small, skilled fingers to get it to work. Then the base station turns on and off when I tried to find a better sync with the headphones on another channel. I couldn't get it to work again without unplugging everything and starting over. The whole manual synch system seemed very archaic. The headphones themselves are big and bulky and the ear covers feel like they will last for about 3 months. After talking to a few other people, I went to Brookstones and purchased a pair of their wireless headphones for the same price that were 1000% better than these. Sound was better (no hum), quality of headphones was better, the headphones autosync with the base station, and the plug from the ac source was easy to attach. first of all i would like to say that i have been very loyal to sony electronics for about 14 years. i have owned tv's, shelf systems, boomboxes etc. i had never tried their wireless headphones. a couple of years ago i bought a pair at best buy for $99.99 and they were horrible. i could not believe how terrible they were and they do have very bad reviews all over the web. about a year went by and i decided to buy another pair from amazon ani had read a few reviews about refurbished. i thought that maybe the ones from best buy were just defective. the refurbished ones were much better but there was still a lot of static and popping. so then i put the base up high on my tower desk and the reception was better but not great. i could now hear people that i don't even know having conversations on my headphones. i did not recognize the voices so i beleive i was listening to people from the other side of town. i had it with those headphones. then i saw that every single sennheiser model of wireless headphones had 4 star reviews which is weird for wireless headphones. i could not believe how good the reviews were (of course there will be some negative reviews but there is much more 5 stars then 1,2 and even 3 star reviews) i have owned these headphones now for a whole week now and there is some little popping here and there but it is no big deal. i have taken them outside and washed my car. heard very little static and i even got inside my car to move it out of the sun to dry it and heard absolutely no static. i parked my car under our car port which has a metal roof and heard no static either. i looked to me that the reception was getting better and better. i could not believe it. i am very happy with these headphone. they are the the best sounding ones cuz they lack bass but the mids and highs are very good. (the sony headpones have much more bass than the sennheisser but they also have much more static and popping which is very annoying and there 2.4 ghz are very expensive and they interfere with telephones and wireless routers even microwaves) 900 mhz maybe old technology but with 900 mhz telephones starting to go extinct (of course i did hear a conversation going on) 900 mhz headpones maybe the best way to go. i do want to add that when i heard a converstion going on, my sony 900 mhz were connected to a 2.4 ghz sender/reciever and the little green light on the transmitter on the base was not even on. so now i think that maybe the 2.4 ghz sender/reciever was picking up that conversation and not the 900 mhz. these sennheisser's have not picked up anything yet and i do see the little green light on from time to time when i don't even have my stereo on. i love these headphones and i plan on buying another pair but the 140 model. We purchased this wireless headset for my mother and it works great. My family has hearing problems so this review is not going to be as much about frequency response/sound, even though we feels these do sound great. My dad can't hear distinct sounds from the new TV's speakers when the volume is up where my mother listens to it. However, when my dad put the headset on, he was amazed at how he could hear every distinct sound with crispness! My mother can now listen to the TV without having it blaring... the headset has it's own volume control. Now my dad can read in quiet and mom can still watch TV. We may get another headset for dad so when he wants to watch TV he can hear it. The base stays plugged in and it turns off automatically. If the TV is off it shuts itself off after a few moments (green LED on base transmitter). Also, my parents have a typical flat ranch style house and these work clearly and flawlessly anywhere, even outside or in the garage! There are only a couple of issues, which are very minor. Unfortunately the tune dial is next to the volume dial, so to fix any mix-ups we put some clear tape over the tune dial once it was tuned in good. This will prevent unintentional tuning when changing the volume control. Another thing is the headset is not rechargeable. It just takes a pair of AAA batts, so be sure to turn it off when finished. This hasn't really been a problem. We are still on the first set of batts. These are great. I think they sound good and the work well. This is my second pair of these headphones and I am pleased with them. I did a lot of web research before I bought the first pair over a year ago. I saw that some of Sennheiser's early rechargeable wireless headphones had issues but that the basic ones with 2 AAA batteries worked well. My experience has confirmed this. Both pairs I have purchases have worked well and I have had no problem.
Strengths: Very good sound, very light and comfortable for ear covering headphones. Weaknesses: use regular AAA batteries rather than rechargeable batteries; they are big headphones and are not comfortable if you want to lie on your side and put your head on a pillow.
My first pair was also refurbished but the price I paid back then was twice what they are now priced. We use them to allow someone to watch TV without distburbing the rest of the family. I even used them when listening to a webcast of a basketball game while I steam cleaned the carpet. I know their may be headphones with greater range or higher fidelity probably also made by Sennheiser, but these sound great to me and are very comfortable. They certainly sound much better than the speakers on our bedroom TV had have great stereo sepration. Some buyers may prefer higher priced models with rechargeable batteries, but we get very long battery life with the AAA batteries which these phones use (as long as you remember to turn them off after using!!)so batteries aren't an issue for us. These headphones are comfortable, they sound good, but whether it's the 900 Mhz frequency or just poor reception from the headphones, these don't work well where I live. I could not get rid of the interference that would come through in waves, like tuning into a weak station on an old A.M radio. I tried re-tuning, adjusting the transmitter around the room, staying still in a place with the least static, all to no avail. Can't recommend these. I bought a reconditioned one of these a couple of years ago and after using it quite a bit I realized how awesome it was. I was looking at getting another one and ran across a brand new one here on amazon at an amazing price. Now I have one and so does my wife so we don't fight over it and we don't wake up the kids. I had previously heard people say that it was crackly sometimes. The only time I have ever noticed this was if the battery was going low or if the volume on the receiver was really low and I was trying to compensate by turning up the headphones.
